Africa Literacy Development Initiative is a project of the Victoria Michaels Foundation. This project is aimed at promoting literacy development in under-resourced & deprived communities across Africa. The ALDI Project focuses holistically on literacy development by engaging stakeholders and donors to promote literacy-enhancing program/projects and campaigns in African countries based on their various definitions of literacy.
Most public 1st and 2nd cycle schools and communities across the African continent are under-resourced and deprived, lacking many basic amenities that may be considered essential or minimum requirements in other parts of the world. The inability of underprivileged parents/guardians to help support their children in school with basic learning aids such as reading books, writing pads, computers, etc. are some of the challenges being faced in Africa.
Victoria Michaels believes that the role of literacy in the development of the African continent cannot be overemphasized; hence, her motivation to raise the awareness of the need for this project to be supported.
In partnership with school heads and teachers, other stakeholders, and corporate institutions as well as individual donors, we will over the next 12 months promote the development of literacy by:
Supporting selected
libraries in under-resourced
and deprived
1st and 2nd cycle schools
and communities.
Provide literacy
materials/ learning aids to
under-resourced and
deprived schools and
communities.
Provide Basic Renovation
works for already existing
school libraries (if selected)
that need such
renovation works.
Organize annual reading
workshops for the students
on the need for reading,
its benefits, and
how to effectively read.
