Supermodel, Victoria Michaels builds kindergarten for Afuaman Basic MA School

Victoria Michaels Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), through its Africa Literacy Development Initiative (ALDI) project, has refurbished the Afuaman School library, as well as its kindergarten block.
The commission, which took place last Friday at the school premises, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Yaw Osei Adutwum, Barrister Osita Oparaguo, and a host of celebrities.
Speaking at the commissioning of the project, founder and Executive Director of ALDI, Victoria Michaels said, the focus of ALDI is on how to support government’s efforts in the improvement of literacy, especially in the rural and undeserved communities.
“We understand that the role of nation building should not just be an act of patriotism but should also be based on taking necessary actions as citizens to better the lot of the society.”
Our vision as an organisation is to transform lives through proactive literacy development ideas such as what we have done here. We believe that educational development must be at the heart of societal governance, and skills acquisition is key to national empowerment, she added.
Headmaster of the school, Michael Owusu thanked the foundation for choosing the school as one of the beneficiaries.
He stated that this will encourage a lot of parents to bring their wards to the school. He also pleaded to other NGOs and Corporate Ghana to come to the aid of the school.
According to the headmaster, the school lacks a staff common room for teachers so they have to sit under a tree. Also, the school lacks furniture and a classroom for Information Communication Technology (ICT), and requested for a new block for the junior high school.
Deputy Minister for Education, Yaw Osei Adutwum entreated other celebrities in the entertainment industry to provide some of these social amenities for the communities since all cannot be done by government.
He also entreated the teachers of the school to pave way for students to reach the top, and also advised parents to encourage and motivate their children for them to succeed.
The Victoria Michaels Foundation is currently providing scholarships to less privileged individuals through the ALDI Scholar Programme. The flagship scholarship intervention is for intelligent children who are not able to further their education due to lack of financial resources at tertiary levels across six higher institutions in Ghana.
